An Adopt a Child Program was hosted by the Boonville FFA Chapter and the BTEC Health Occupational Students of America organization. The students from both of these organizations had the opportunity to select an ornament that had a child’s list of what he or she would like to receive for Christmas. The Boonville FFA Chapter also raised approximately $400.00 during the Barnwarming Coin Wars which was used to purchase a large number of gifts.  The children receiving gifts are from the Boonville and Cooper county area. The two organizations together received enough presents to give each child four to five presents on Christmas morning thanks to all the students who participated.

The Boonville FFA officers and members and HOSA members gladly wrapped all of the presents for the children who were adopted. Then on Tuesday December 15th HOSA members, Stephanie Schrader, Megan Smith, Jamie McKinney and their sponsor Mrs. Stock along with FFA members Stephanie Schrader and Alli Morton with their sponsor Ms. Thies delivered all the presents to As the River Flows Community Outreach. They were very happy to see the members from both organizations with their sponsors delivering them and were very surprised with all of the gifts they brought with them.

Food for America

Food for America
By: Alli Morton

On Friday May 8, 2009, the Boonville FFA Chapter held their annual Food for America presentations. There were four stations that the David Barton students, grades Second through Fifth and the first grade GAP class from Central School were allowed to attend. They listened/got to experience the information from the FFA members at each station for ten minutes. The first station was the animal station. FFA members brought animals such as goats, pigs, cows, hens and roosters, waterfowl, and rabbits. The students were told information about each animal, food and other products that come from them, and how to take care of livestock. The second station that they attended was the farm safety station. Charlotte Jackson, the Missouri Farm Safety Just 4 Kids Intern assisted FFA members at the station. FFA members brought in a lawn mower and a four wheeler, and talked to students about safety precautions to go along with them. Students also learned about close similarities between toxic chemicals and household items, grain bin & wagon safety, and wearing the proper safety gear. The third station that students attended was the food station. FFA members at this station taught the students about how the food they ate was related to agriculture. They used pizza as the main food, and showed them the raw ingredients that the farmers grow to put on the pizza. The fourth station was the conservation station. The Conservation Department provided us animal pelts to show the students and teach them about wildlife, fish, birds and their habitats.  Thanks to the generosity of organizations such as Farm Service Agency, Boonville MFA, Missouri Department of Conservation, AQHA, ARBA, Missouri Pork Producers, and the Soybean Association, all students were provided with a bag that they were able to receive coloring books, pencils, animal identification cards and many other items so they could remember and continue to learn after Food for America.
